Naomi Hickman

Professional Singer and Vocal Coach

Here's a little about me:

With over 10 years professional performance experience, I am a versatile soprano trained in all major vocal genres including classical, opera, musical theatre and jazz. I have a Master's degree specialising in vocal performance and singing tuition, and I am a passionate, experienced vocal tutor.

I began my training with Elizabeth Glen in 2003 whilst at secondary school. Under her tutelage I gained my Trinity Guildhall Recital Certificate in singing and became a member of female vocal ensemble Lyrica. In 2010, I was awarded the Ken Redfern Memorial Prize for Music and was offered a place at the University of Southampton to read Music, specialising in classical voice.

Whilst at Southampton, I studied with Keith Davis, Ted Schmitz and Christine Page. I was a regular soprano dep for Cantores Michaelis and was a founding member of the Fidelis Chorale choir. The pop and gospel choir, Jazzmanix, was another love of mine and it was through this choir that I discovered my passion for teaching when I was their Musical Director during my final year.

In 2013 I graduated from Southampton with a BA Honours degree in Music and was awarded a place on the MMus programme at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I received tuition from classical soprano Maureen Braithwaite and had vocal coaching from notable singers, directors and tutors including Julian Pike, Stephen Barlow, Philip White, Paul Wingfield and Robin Bowman. I was a finalist in the Ashleyan Opera Prize and the Stuart Cameron Smith American Song Prize Competitions in 2016, and in the same year was awarded the Ella Cheshire Scholarship for Postgraduate Soprano. I graduated with a Masters degree in Performance (vocal) and Pedagogy (vocal tuition specialism) and am now enjoying a busy and varied singing and teaching career.
